Willet Catoptrophorus semipalmatus |
When it is feeding, a Willet looks like a lot of other birds. It’s about the size of the Greater Yellowlegs, and has gray legs. When it flies, you’ll know for sure that it’s a Willet. It calls will-will-willet, and shows off the flashy black-and-white pattern of its wings. Willets migrate from their home in the Great Plains to spend winters on our coastal beaches. They go back there in the summer to build nests, when there is plenty of food on the lakes and marshes. |
