Song Sparrow Melospiza melodia |
This is the most musical of the sparrows. It calls weet-weet-weet,
then sings a little trill. It has an interesting way of pumping its tail
as it flies. You’ll know it from other sparrows by a gray stripe above
its eye, and a dark spot on its streaked breast.
Some Song Sparrows are permanent residents. Others migrate. They will come to feeders, but they like to hide in underbrush and feed on seeds on the ground. Many of them are killed by cats. |
