Sea Lettuce |

Algae doesn’t have roots or leaves. But it doesn’t need them. It can get its nutrients directly from the water it’s floating in. And the part that looks like a leaf -- the blade -- does photosynthesis. If there is too much sea lettuce growing in one place, it can form large mats that cover the water. That’s bad, because it keeps the plants and animals in the water from getting any sun, and they die. Sea Lettuce is eaten by humans and is used as food for livestock. |
