Western Poison Oak Toxidendron diversilobum |

This vine grows everywhere. It has shimmering green leaves in the spring, and attractive red leaves in the fall. But Poison Oak only looks pretty. Actually, it causes an itchy rash in most people if they brush against it. The old saying about this is: “Leaves of three, let it be.” Native Americans called this plant “Ne-sis.” They used the sticky resin in its stems as a black dye for baskets. |
