   You will know the Black Phoebe by its white belly marking. The white mark comes up on its breast like an upside-down heart.

    This bird is a member of the Flycatcher family. It likes to catch insects that hover around water. You often see it perched on a blade of cattail or a branch. It suddenly darts out over the water to catch an insect, and returns to its perch. Then it darts out again. Its narrow, flat bill helps trap insects. Tiny bristles on both sides of the bill help too.
