Bush Monkeyflower
Mimulus aurantiacus

This plant is also called Sticky Monkeyflower. The leaves become sticky in the hot sun because of a varnish-like substance that protects the plant from drying out and keeps predators away. Some people think its yellow-orange flowers look like a monkey’s face.

Native Americans and early settlers ate Monkeyflower leaves like lettuce. They also ground them up and applied them to wounds.
