     The Barn Owl has one of the most blood-curdling calls of any North American bird. It is called a “ghost owl” or “spirit owl” because of its hissing shriek and pale coloring.

     This bird has very sharp hearing. It can hunt mice and other rodents in total darkness, because it can find them by sound. One Barn Owl can catch 60 mice in an hour. When a male Barn Owl wants a female to choose him for her mate, he gives her a mouse as a present.
