Joe and Marian

The place and the times have been captured in this story of Joe and Marian McQuade, as seen through the eyes of their friends and colleagues, and their fifteen children.

It’s the success story of a coal miner who mined 100 million tons of coal, beginning with a pick and shovel and ending as president of the 5th largest producer of metallurgical coal in the world, and later as consultant to others.

And it’s the story of a shy housewife who became the founder of Grandparents Day, a national holiday. To accomplish this, she lobbied Congress and two presidents until she convinced them that this holiday was important and necessary for honoring the elderly.
